Overview

At the foot of the Annapurna massif, this trek is accessible to all, through beautiful hills between pine forests and rhododendrons, traditional villages and terraced fields. In any season, the variety of landscapes is a walker a complete overview of Nepal. On the sixth day of trekking, the huge south face of Annapurna remains an unforgettable memory. The gigantic rock and vertical bars and the purity of the ice walls, enhance the exceptional views of the Himalayan peaks nearby: Annapurna I (8,091 m), Fang (7847 m), and Machhapuchhare (6997 m) virgin summit, one of the most aesthetically pleasing mountains of the world.

Detailed Itineraries

DAY 1: ARRIVAL IN KATHMANDU

It is a panoramic thrill flying into Kathmandu on a clear day. The views of snow-capped mountain peaks sprawling down below you are almost ecstatic, beginning a whole chain of memorable experiences that stay with you for a long, long time. A representative and driver from Yeti Adventure will meet you at the airport and escort you to your designated hotel. The representative will help you check into hotel. At the hotel you will be briefed about your daily activities.

DAY 2:FLY KATHMANDU TO POKHARA (1,350M) DRIVE TO PHEDI (1,130M) & TREK TO DHAMPUS (1,700M/5,577FT); 25-30 MIN FLIGHT, 30 MIN DRIVE AND 2 HRS WALK

Take a domestic flight from Kathmandu Airport to Pokhara (approx 30 minutes). It is an exciting flight with clear visibility of the peaks of the Himalayan Range through the right-hand window as we travel westwards. Particularly prominent are Manasalu and the Annapurna range as we approach towards Pokhara.

Once in Pokhara, you are transferred to Phedi where you begin the trek. After couple of hours walking uphill on long stone paved steps you will arrive to Dhampus. The view of the mountains from this place is lovely but the best is yet to come.

DAY 03: TREK FROM DHAMPUS TO LANDRUK (1,550M/5,085FT); 4-5 HRS WALK

After crossing Dhampus, we get our first clear views of the mountains as we start ascending through the forest on a trail which is generally made up of stone steps.

When we pass through Pothana, we climb to a small pass, at a place called Deorali. At this point we reach to the highest side on the east side of the Modi Khola, i.e. river which flows out of the Annapurna Sanctuary.

Then, we start descending all the way down to the river, passing through the beautiful Gurung settlement of Landrung, which offers spectacular views of Annapurna South and Himchuli. After crossing a suspension bridge, we will settle a camp on the west side of the river.

DAY 4: TREK FROM LANDRUK TO CHOMRONG (2170M/7120FT): 5 - 6 HOURS

Our route now climbs quite high alongside the river through bamboo forest and isolated farmsteads. The teahouses at Jhinu welcome our tiresome feet to stop for a drink and rest after a sweaty climb. Ascending further along a treeless ridge we come to Taglung. From this Gurung village, we can see the Annapurna South and an impressive view of Machhapuchhare as well.

DAY 5: TREK FROM CHHOMRONG TO DOVAN - 7 HOURS approx

We leave Chhomrong along the Modi Khola leaving behind inhabited foothills into the high step and wooded slopes of Himalayas. We cross the suspension bridge then trek up to Sinuwa Danda. The ascent from Sinuwa becomes somewhat flatter. The trail passes through thick and dark rhododendron forest up to Khuldighar. Then, we descend a long and steep stone steps into deep bamboo and rhododendron forests through which we reach Bamboo. After gentle climb of 1 ½ hrs walking, finally we reach our destination at Dovan.

DAY 6: TREK FROM DOVAN TO MACCHAPPUCHARE BASE CAMP (7 Hrs. approx)

Climbing steeply we reach a fire-blackened overhang of Hinko Cave. From here we will reach at Deurali. Leaving Deurali the valley narrows even more as we enter the gateway to the Sanctuary. We climb up to the area which is called Macchappuchare Base camp, a level and grassy moraine platform with several lodges. In the afternoon we can go up to the ridge behind camp to look down onto the glacier and absorb the distant view of Annapurna 1 & 3, Gangapurna and by straining your neck upward the nearby Fishtail.

DAY 7:MBC TO ANNAPURNA BASE CAMP (4130M) (About 2 ½ hrs walking)

Another short day walk today as it is a fairly gentle ascent from our camp to Annapurna South Base Camp. Increasingly impressive views reward us for our efforts as we climb the last steep section before reaching the base camp area. The afternoon is free to relax and admire one of the most stunning mountain amphitheatres in the Himalaya. Optionally, if conditions and route permit there's a chance to walk out towards the Annapurna Base Camp. (4130m).

DAY 8: TREK BACK FROM ANNAPURNA BASE CAMP TO DOBHAN (APPROX 5 TO 6 HRS)

After accomplishing the Annapurna trekking to our final destination, Annapurna Base Camp, we retrace the route back to Dobhan. Walking involves descending through the trail and we reach Dobhan.

DAY 9: TREK TO CHOMRONG (2170M)

We leave the gorge of the Modi Khola to find the terracing and civilization Chomrong.

DAY 10: TREK CHOMRONG TO TADAPANI (2650M/8,694FT)

We are taking a beautiful but an alternative route back to Pokhara via Ghorepani. We trek in the trail through potato and wheat fields before descending to the village of Khumnu which is located above the Khumnu Khola (river). After crossing the river, the trail leads to the steep uphill to Melanche before continuing through rhododendron forests to Tadapani,. The excellent views of Annapurna South, Himchuli and Machhapuchhare can be seen from here.

DAY 11: TREK TO GHOREPANI (2860 M) AND ASCENT OF POON HILL / R (3200 M).

Climb up Deorali pass (3000 m). You will have magnificent views on while descending: Dhaulagiri, Tukuche, and Annapurna. In the afternoon, you climb to Poon Hill to watch the sunset. This climb Poon Hill is about 2 hrs. 30 min.

DAY 12: TREK TO BIRETHANTI (1050 M)

Today, walk through a rhododendron forest until Ulleri where the view is very extensive. A long descend into endless stairs to Tirkhedhunga and to the Birethanti Burungdi Khola.

DAY 13: TRANSFER TO POKHARA AND FLY BACK TO KATHMANDU

Today, take short walk until you reach Nayapul. Then you are transferred to Pokhara for your flight to Kathmandu.

DAY 14: IN KATHMANDU

After breakfast, proceed for the sightseeing tour of Bhaktapur city, Pashupatinath and Boudhanath.

Bhaktapur (Bhadgaon): Also known as city of devotees, Bhaktapur is the home of medieval art and architecture. Lying 14 kilometers/9 miles east of Kathmandu City, this place was founded in the 9th Century and is shaped like a conch shell. The city is at the height of 4,600 ft. above sea level. In Bhadgaon, you will visit the Durbar Square with the Palace of 55 windows built by King Bhupatindra Malla. The famous five-storied Nyatapol temple on the terraces of which stands a pair of figures - two goddesses, two strong men, two elephants, two lions and two griffins is the tallest temple in the valley and was also built by King Bhupatindra Malla. It is one of the best examples of Pagoda styled temples.

Pashupatinath: Pashupatinath Temple dating back to 400 A.D. is one of the oldest Hindu Temples dedicated to Lord Shiva. It is for the Hindus what Mecca is for the Muslims. Situated amidst a lush green natural setting on the bank of the sacred Bagmati River, the temple built in Pagoda Style with gilded roof and richly carved silver doors. Pashupatinath is the centre of annual pilgrimage on the day of Shivaratri which falls in the month of February/March. You’ll also be able to see cremation grounds that lie on the bank of Bagmati behind the temple.

Boudhanath Stupa: One of the oldest and the biggest Buddhist monuments ever built in Nepal; Boudhanath is one of the holiest structures imposing a height of 36 meters with three massive level Mandala style platforms. It is surrounded by colourful buildings housing families creating a friendly enclosure. The Stupa is visited every year by tens of thousands of pilgrims from all over the world.

DAY 15: FINAL DEPARTURE
